For long term storage lined drums prohibit rust, corrosion and metal deposits that can contaminate fuel delivery systems. Unless u have higher compression than stock, no need for anything over 93 on streets. Alcohols like methyl alcohol (methanol) and ethyl alcohol (ethanol) are often used in race fuels. Race fuel has a much higher octane than pump gas because those engines have higher compression ratios. Without getting into too many specifics, and debating opinions, my advice is that you can always benefit with a race fuel, wether it be a 50/50 percentage, or whatever you think runs well in your situation, as long as you do it consistently, and jet the bike accordingly. Unlike pump gas, t4 contains no ethanol, so it won’t clog fuel injectors or go bad when stored for long periods of time. I currently use shell 92 octane pump gas with stihl ultra oil.
It’s a good fuel to use as an example because it contains 10% (by […] 260 gtx is a good fuel for many applications that need more detonation protection than typical street gas provides, yet cannot use a leaded fuel. Nevertheless, for pro stock and pro stock motorcycle classes, the only approved racing fuel is sunoco sr18. Race cars, however, tend to have higher compression ratios so they thrive on the higher octane fuels.
We get a lot of questions about fuel metering changes required for oxygenated fuels… and that is a good thing, because racers should be asking those questions.
